Pastor Trey Rhodes

A native of Charleston, SC whose family settled on the Isle of Palms, SC. He attended Sullivan’s Island Elementary then began attending Porter-Gaud School 1972 when he also joined Isle of Palms Baptist Church.  But it was in 1974 that Trey began his personal relationship with Christ while attending an area wide crusade sponsored by a local church. Soon, Trey was sharing what Christ had done in his life. As the whole family began to attend church, he was avidly involved in everything from the choir, weekly soulwinning, bus ministry, and youth ministry. In 1976, he began attending Charleston Heights Baptist Academy and graduated in 1978. He is also a graduate of Liberty University (1982) and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (1992).

August 17th, 2003 was a huge day in the life of Trey. He was getting ready to preach at Oceanside and fell to the floor having suffered a dissected aorta (this is the same condition that killed John Ritter and Jim Phillips). He was all but DOA when he arrived at Roper Hospital. Thanks to the combined human efforts of Dr. Matt Blue, triage specialist, and Dr. David Peterseim, heart surgeon, Trey's life was saved. God's hand was leading all as they had never seen one of these events before. After 6 days in intensive care and 2 additional months in the hospital, Trey was released. He asked the Lord for two things, to be able to sit up and to be able to preach. The Lord answered both prayers and more. Although still walking with a cane, Trey can preach as he does every Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Thursday night at Oceanside. Trey has also been able to speak at Bible conferences and churches encouraging people to live for Jesus Christ right now.

Assistant Pastor Ivey Rhodes

Ivey is a native of Charleston, born at Roper Hospital, and lived in the Charleston area for the first few years of his life. While his father, Pastor Trey, was in seminary Ivey was brought to North Carolina before coming back to South Carolina in 1993 and has lived here every since. He went from the midlands, to the up state, and now back to the low country which he has always considered home.

Salvation Experience: At fourteen during a revival being preached by Dr. Bailey Smith Ivey came to the point where he didn’t want to fool around with whether he was going to heaven or hell. So against his pride and Satan Ivey went forward knowing exactly what he was doing. Ivey said “I asked Jesus Christ to be the Savior and Lord of my life. I was again baptized and it wasn’t just a bath it was a true representation of what Christ did in my life. And to this day I try to live a life worthy of my calling.”

Call to Ministry: Just two years after Ivey became a Christ follower he was called to the ministry. Again this time the Lord was working through a guest speaker at the church. “I remember standing during the invitation and thinking, ‘What else matters in this world besides serving Jesus.’” Ivey continues, “I then went forward and dedicated my life in ministry to Him.” For years he searched for exactly what Christ wanted him to do and finally decided on attending Charleston Southern University in order to get the training he needed for ministry work. He graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor’s degree in Religion and Christian Leadership. Today He feels God’s calling on his life stronger than ever. Ivey was ordainded October 14th 2007 by Oceanside Church.

Family Background: Ivey was born into a minister’s family, and has been about every “K” one can be. He’s been a MK (Missionaries Kid), MMK (Music Ministers Kid), YMK Youth Ministers Kid), and Ivey, Allie and Maggiefinally a PK (Preachers Kid). Through all that he was searching for the love of his life. At age seventeen he started working at Chick-fil-A in Mt. Pleasant and there was a very beautiful fifteen year old girl working there named Allie Alberti. Ivey says, “I thought she was a Christian but to my surprise, I later found out, she had never even been to church, so I invited her to come with me to Oceanside.” Within five weeks she came to know the Lord as her Savior. He took that as God’s sign that she was the one. They dated for three years and finally on June 5th, 2006 Ivey and Allie were married in Mt. Pleasant, SC. In January of 2007 they found out Allie was pregnant, and on September 25th, 2007 they had their first child, a baby girl named Margaret Nicole Rhodes. Their family of three now resides in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

Ministry Experience: Ivey has been involved in volunteer ministry since before his teenage years. He worked on mission trips and in the music ministry playing the bass guitar. As time progressed he became more involved in the workings of the church. Everything came to fruition at the start of Oceanside. Not becoming involved was almost not a choice for Ivey since his father is the Pastor. He worked under his father for many years as a volunteer at Oceanside, but in summer of 2005 the church hired him as a part-time summer youth minister. He continued along that path all the way up until his graduation from Charleston Southern University. At that time the church decided to bring him on as Assistant Pastor in order to help bring Oceanside to the next level.
